In this episode Brent Ingersoll speaks with Larry Osborne. The discussion dives into team leadership in the church and how to raise up and keep young, talented leaders on your staff. Larry speaks on identifying, empowering and platforming upcoming leaders in the congregation and the practical challenges this involves. More than anything, Osborne casts an inspiring vision for humility in leadership that seeks to bless and elevate others so that the whole team can “win”.
The conversation pivots towards the difference between potential and calling and what it looks like to lead a big church, love your spouse and raise your kids to love Jesus, love the church and love the pastorate.
The dialogue ends with Larry dispensing wisdom about how to navigate COVID-19 as leaders. He encourages us to redeem this time for learning, growth, rest, and deeper reflection.

Larry’s Resources
Sticky Church - One of the reasons churches struggle to grow is that their back door is as wide as their front door. In Sticky Church Larry makes the case that closing the back door of a church may be more important than opening the front door wider.
In these pages Osborne provides a strategy for shutting the back door — small groups that create deep knitted communities in the church. Sticky Church tells the captivating tale of North Coast Church’s phenomenal growth and offers practical tips for launching your own sermon-based small group ministry. This is an ideal book for any church leader who is seeking to start, grow or renovate a small group ministry that is Bible centered and fosters ‘sticky’ communities.
Sticky Teams - Organizations tend to thrive when led by healthy teams. Healthy teams, however, never happen by accident. A thriving team culture must be cultivated over time — it must be watered and weeded. In Sticky Teams Larry Osborne identifies the weeds that get in the way of a cohesive, effective team. With the skillful hand of a seasoned leader, he exposes hidden roadblocks and silly thinking that ruins teams. Then, after identifying the problems, Osborne provides a road map for how to build and nurture cohesive, unified teams that stay on course for the long-haul.
Regardless of the size of your organization, Sticky Teams provides invaluable wisdom and insight about maintaining a healthy and unified leadership team that lasts.
Sticky Leaders - Sticky Leaders is a book about leading innovative, dynamic churches and organizations. In these pages Osborne shares the secret for creating a culture in which innovation occurs. And his answer might surprise you.
The key, according to the author, is creating a culture where there is freedom to fail. When it comes to any new venture, failure is always waiting in the wings — the only question is, ‘how will you, as the leader, respond to it?’ The freedom to fail can create an environment where both stability and creativity flourish; where those tasked with pitching new ideas, problem solving and innovating thrive. Implementing the practical wisdom found in this book will set the reader on a trajectory towards organizational leadership that innovates, adapts and changes depending on the need of the moment, without causing uncertainty or insecurity in the organization.
“We’re not called to reach our potential, we’re called to fulfill our calling.”

Now, here is what is unique about Compassion—100% of their work is done in partnership with local churches. In fact, for many of the communities Compassion serves, they don’t know a large international NGO—they simply know the people of the local church who serve the most vulnerable in their community. Compassion’s heart for the local church extends here, to Canada, too. They are experts at equipping the Canadian church for mission in ways that are tailored to each church’s unique context.
