In this episode Jason talks with pastor, speaker, and writer Sam Collier from Atlanta, Georgia. Sam begins by sharing about his brand and book (see below) A Greater Story - a theme that lives at the centre of his life and mission. He lets the listener deeper into his personal story filled with poverty, disadvantage and redemption. Not to spoil it here, but somehow Steve Harvey makes a guest appearance in Sam’s life (you’ll have to find out how in the interview).

Jason and Sam touch on topics like reaching the next generation, and the importance of rest but the bulk of the conversation is spent focused on the topic of racial injustice. Jason refers to Sam as a bridge builder - between the south and the north, between generations and also between ethnicities. And it’s not difficult for the listener to see why.

Sam acknowledges the heightened backlash, the polarizing responses and the honest sentiment of “I can never get it right” that comes with standing up against racism in this moment. The way Sam puts it is “There is nowhere to stand in the fight and not get hit.” He admonishes and thanks those who have chosen to speak up, those who are getting hit alongside him. And then Sam shares one final encouragement that perhaps some of us need to hear most today.

“Don’t get out of the fight.”

From the get-go this interview is saturated with his contagious charisma and energy. We hope you enjoy Episode 16 with Sam Collier.

This episode was brought to you by Compassion.

The mission of Compassion is to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. And they’re doing exactly that in 25 different countries. Now, here is what is unique about Compassion—100% of their work is done in partnership with local churches. In fact, for many of the communities Compassion serves, they don’t know a large international NGO—they simply know the people of the local church who serve the most vulnerable in their community. Compassion’s heart for the local church extends here, to Canada, too. They are experts at equipping the Canadian church for mission in ways that are tailored to each church’s unique context. We want to encourage you to begin a transformative missions partnership with Compassion.
