In this interview Jason speaks with Pete Hughes, the pastor of KXC in Kings Cross, London.
This conversation explores the power of prayer as a church planting strategy. The conversation bears witness to the power of the prophetic word to confirm calling and destiny in the early life of a new church. More than that, Pete highlights the power of mining the history of a place as spirit-led archaeologists, digging up strongholds, and praying specifically over long standing, deeply entrenched darkness. The leader is reminded that we must baptize our imagination in the story of God as well as the story of the place we are called to serve. Because when we introduce the story and struggles of our context to the story and salvation of God, the end result is deliverance and renewal.
Leadership also has its dark days filled with self-doubt and confusion. Pete shares about his struggles and the heartbreaks that occurred and how God can still bring beauty out of the brokenness through the praise and intercession of His people. As Pete reminds us, “we take the most ground in the hardest seasons when we choose to trust God.”
One of the great gifts of this conversation is hearing Pete discuss his response to the issues of racism, injustice and the tragic death of George Floyd. His response is humble, honest, biblically informed and invites the leader and the church into repentance and self-examination — highlighting Tim Keller’s framework of recognize, repent and replant.
Pete Hughes
Pete Hughes is the founding pastor of Kings Cross Church (KXC) in London. Commissioned by the Bishop of London, Pete and Bee Hughes were sent out from St Mary’s with a small group of leaders and a simple vision: to recklessly give themselves away to God, each other and the people of King’s Cross and beyond. Check out his newly released book “All Things New.”
“We need to know the story and history of our cities. Part of our job is to introduce the story of the city to the story of God. Then the Kingdom begins to break out. ”

Pete has written a book, and helped release a worship album through his church - both of which go by the same title of “All Things New.” Find out more below.
Pete Hughes’ book All Things New is both deep and digestible, pastorally on-point and theologically rich. In these pages Hughes breaks down complex theological themes introducing readers to the bigger story of scripture. Pete remind us that, ‘The story we live in is the story we live out” and when God’s story is connected with our story the end result is deliverance and renewal. If you are searching for a larger biblical framework from which to engage the ills of our day, All Things New is a must read.
KXC’s worship album All Things New is a soundtrack to KXC’s story. Songs of praise and hope and resurrection life that invite people into the presence of God. The tracks recorded were birthed out of contending for spiritual breakthrough in King’s Cross, London, and are saturated with God’s truth — reverberating with the passion and purpose of His people.
